Distributor Rotor

The distributor rotor is a crucial component in traditional ignition systems with a distributor. Its primary purpose is to transfer high-voltage electrical pulses from the ignition coil to the spark plug wires in the correct firing sequence. Here are the key purposes of a distributor rotor:

  1. Distribution of High-Voltage Pulses:

    • The distributor rotor is mounted on the distributor shaft and rotates as the engine runs. When the ignition coil generates a high-voltage electrical pulse, the rotor distributes this energy to the individual spark plug wires, leading to the corresponding spark plugs in the engine cylinders.
  2. Firing Order Sequence:

    • In engines with multiple cylinders, the firing order is the specific sequence in which each spark plug is fired during the engine's four-stroke cycle. The distributor rotor is designed with a contact or electrode that aligns with terminals inside the distributor cap, ensuring that the high-voltage pulse is directed to the correct spark plug at the right moment in the firing order.
  3. Connection with Ignition Coil:

    • The distributor rotor is linked to the ignition coil through the distributor shaft. As the rotor rotates, it makes contact with the central terminal inside the distributor cap, allowing the high-voltage pulse to be transferred from the ignition coil to the rotor.
  4. Mechanical Linkage with Camshaft:

    • The rotation of the distributor rotor is synchronized with the engine's camshaft, which is connected to the crankshaft. This mechanical linkage ensures that the firing order is coordinated with the engine's cycle, providing the correct timing for ignition.
  5. Precision Timing:
